Galatians 5:13-26, 6:10 (NRSV – adapted)
Brothers and sisters, you were called to freedom;
do not use your freedom as an opportunity for selfishness,
but through love become servants to one another.
For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment,
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not be distracted by your selfish desires,
which lead to jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, and things like these.
By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.
Let us not be selfish, competing against one another, and envying one another.
Whenever we have the opportunity let us work for the good of all.
