Weekly workshops resume
January 7, 2008
The weekly meetings of
the Woman's Association's Monday Morning Workshop will resume
January 7, in the church Vestry, weather permitting.
The workshop is an
informal gathering of church women who plan and work on
various projects throughout the year, culminating in the
Holiday Fair in November.
This month we will
be cleaning out and organizing in the vestry and making
Valentines cards for women at the Goffstown Prison.
All church women
are invited to drop by any Monday morning after 9:30 for
coffee and fellowship. Those who can stay past noon should
bring their own lunch. Hot tea, coffee and dessert are
always provided.
Anyone wanting to
know more about the Woman's Association can call Adrienne
Topliffe, President, at 673-7436.
Holiday Fair
a grand success
The Woman’s
Association would like to thank all church members and friends
who helped to make last year’s Holiday Fair a success. As of
November 20 the fair had netted approximately $7,000.
We are so grateful
to all those who supported the fair by donating items,
working on projects, working at the fair, or shopping on
fair day. We couldn’t have done it without you!
The proceeds from
the fair enable the Woman’s Association to make an annual
pledge to our church and support numerous community
organizations throughout the year.
Thank you also for
the many wonderful donations to the Holiday Fair Silent
Auction. The diverse array of items caught the attention of
many bidders and there was much excitement when the closing
bell rang. It was a great success thanks to the support of
so many church members.
So save your “good
as new” unwanted stuff for next year!

CCA
Woman's Association
The Woman’s Association has been a central part
of the life of The Congregational Church of Amherst for many years.
Its members devote their time and energy to support the mission
of the church.
We meet weekly at 9:30 am on Mondays during the
year to work on craft projects and, most importantly, to share fellowship
together, which is key to our success. We welcome new members, but
membership is not necessary to be part of our workshops and special
projects.
Our annual Holiday Fair and spring and fall rummage
sales enable us to carry out our mission objectives to our church,
our community, and beyond.
During 2003, for example, we donated $9,650 to
the church. The sum includes our annual pledge of $6,000 as well
as special donations, among them $1,000 to Retire the Debt, $500
to the youth group to fund one participant’s mission trip to Biloxi,
MI, $600 toward building supplies for a new classroom in the vestry,
and $500 for new Sunday school Bibles. We also make special purchases,
most recently two new signs with removable letters, two new heavy-duty
doormats, and a cigarette urn for outside the lobby entrance.
We respond to special community needs and requests
for contributions from charities. Our SERRV Shop supports income-producing
projects in third-world countries.
We try to help out whenever and wherever we can.
We pray for and send cards to those who are ill or just in need
of a friend. We entertain residents at two nursing homes. Our Candidates’
Forum helps voters be informed about local candidates and issues.
We are often asked to prepare and host funeral receptions for members
of the church.
There is always room for more
around our table. We would love to see new faces with new ideas
and energy. If you have a talent or craft you want to share, if
you have some time and would enjoy the fellowship of Monday Morning
Workshops, please think about joining us. You don’t have to come
to every workshop. We say, “Come when you can.” There are also opportunities
to serve on our board.
