Retire the Debt
The
Congregational Church of Amherst has served as the town
meeting house and a place of worship for the past 225 years.
To
maintain its historic character while preparing for the
demands of the twenty-first century, the church initiated a million-dollar renovation project.
Improvements included a new roof, sills, heating,
elevator and accessible bathrooms.
The goal of the Retire the Debt Committee is to assist
with paying off the remaining debt from the recent building
project and our contribution to the NH UCC Bicentennial
Campaign. The Committee has sponsored many successful events.
- In the Spring of 2002 RTD held an auction
that raised over $40,000 for the cause.
- During the advent
season the RTD
committee organized the Enchanted Parsonage project
which involved decorating our parsonage with
a variety of beautiful trees and other decorations. This
project
was enhanced with a popular raffle.
- From that project emerged the
Enchanted
Parsonage Cookbook--295 recipes of the finest food
from the best cooks. Available at the office or call
Andrea Cyr at 673-3231.
- In the spring of
2003 the RTD sponsored the May-Be Magic Concert
which featured
talented members and friends of the church.
- Christmas in Amherst Village is a December tour of six historic
Amherst homes done up in spirit and period style, with
live music and luncheon.
The committee
continues work on additional projects to help
reduce and finally eliminate
the building project debt.
