Prayer Shawl Ministry

A local mission with world-wide reach

All knitters (or crocheters) welcome – come and see what we are doing! Currently, thanks to a generous donation, we can provide yarn for you to knit. Over 200 shawls for church members, friends and family in almost seven years! Questions – call Carol Lyon, 672-0100.

The ministry began in 1998, at The Hartford Seminary in Hartford, CT.  Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, graduates of the 1997 Women’s Leadership Institute, melded their love of knitting/crocheting with their work in the program of applied Feminist Spirituality (directed by Prof. Miriam Therese Winter, MMS.  Prayer Shawl Ministries now span the country, with groups in nearly every state.

Shawls created under this ministry reach out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl.  For more information about the ministry and its origins, patterns and wools, prayers and much more, visit www.shawlministry.com

This ministry at CCA began in 2003. In that time we have constructed, prayed over, blessed and delivered more than 90 shawls to church members, friends and family. The recipients we have chosen are, or were, dealing with various life situations where knowing that their church family was keeping them in prayer was a comfort to them. Celebrations are another reason to share the love that a shawl brings.
