Welcome to Church School!

Welcome back to Church School!

Enjoy the excitement of reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones on Rally Day, Sunday, September 9. Complete registration forms in the Memorial Garden to the left of the church building, starting at 9:00 a.m. To make things easier, your family may want to visit the church website, www.ccamherst.org and print out the forms available by clicking on the Church School link and then Forms. Then just bring them to the volunteers at the registration table on Rally Sunday. Registration will be simple and you’ll have more time to chat with friends. In case of rain, registration will take place in the community room. There will be additional time for registration and questions during the Homecoming Picnic after worship.
There will also be sign-up opportunities for Middle High Youth Group (grades 6-8), Senior High Youth Group (grades 9-12) and Confirmation Class (grade 8).

Classes start on Rally Day! After Children’s Time in the worship service, students will be called to meet their teachers, go to their classrooms and begin lessons. Parents can pick up children at their classrooms and bring them to the Homecoming Picnic.
The community is encouraged to share in the children’s theme of environmental responsibility this year as we proceed to better know God and ourselves at church school.

About our Church School

Children in the classes for three year olds and for four year olds as well as kindergarteners are guided in their classroom activities by the WorshipCenter curriculum. Teachers engage them in storytelling and ritual so that the children experience Bible in an age-appropriate manner and begin to build their worship skills.

Grades 1 through 7 explore faith through the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum. Seasons of the Spirit is lectionary-based, allowing families on most Sundays to share in the same Bible readings whether they be in church school or the worship service. Seasons of the Spirit strives to provide a foundation by which children can put their growing faith into practice.

Several special events occur each year in the church school calendar:

  • Rally Sunday (registration, celebration for first Sunday of church school year, in September)
  • Bible Sunday (third grade, in October)
  • Mission Sunday (all grades, Sunday after Thanksgiving)
  • Christmas pageant (fourth grade, December)
  • Church School Sunday (all grades, final Sunday of church school year in June)
  • Children’s Chapel (all grades, three Sundays per year).

Enrollment is welcome at any point of the church school year (please click here to see registration forms).

Recruiting church school teachers is also an ongoing activity. Many volunteers choose to teach in a 2-person team/grade level for either one of the fall/winter/spring terms or for the whole school year. Teachers include parents, high school students and others who choose to share and grow their faith alongside the young people of the church.

In the summer and on occasional Sundays during the school year, regular classes are not held and families are encouraged to participate in the worship service together. On those days there is a supervised general activity for children in second grade and younger after children’s time as well as the usual nursery and two-year-old care.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.”

Psalm 24:1

An earth-friendly theme guides our church school year with purpose and devotion..
In story, study, prayer, mission projects and more, church school participants will discover and come to appreciate God’s love and guidance for us individually and collectively.
